The jury in the trial of a Dublin man accused of murdering his girlfriend in their flat last year will resume their deliberations later this morning.

The eight men and four women spent last night in a hotel after they had deliberated for around three-and-a-half hours.

Stephen Carney (aged 33) denies murdering 27-year-old Amanda Jenkins at the Anna Livia Apartments on James' Street in October last year.

He told Gardaí he strangled her during a row on the Friday night and then dragged her body into the bedroom, placed a pillow under her head and a duvet over her.

The court heard he went out drinking that night and the following day and called the Gardaí on Sunday morning asking them to come and take him away because he had killed his girlfriend.
