Joan Burton says it is important for politicians to listen to people

Joan Burton has said it's important for politicians to listen to people - after Enda Kenny claimed there were a lot of 'whingers' in Castlebar.

The Taoiseach has come under pressure to make an apology but refused to do so earlier.

Labour leader Joan Burton has said politicians need to listen to people's problems in order to try to make things better: “Irish politics is very local and close, I go out and I talk to people all the time.

“Obviously not as easily when I have all of you people following me.

“But I talk to people and of course people are hurting, that’s what politicians have to hear because then you out the policies together, that ensure that those kind of people get as much protection and as much improvement as we can make.”
