Jarveys take dung-catcher battle to High Court

Jarvey drivers have commenced High Court proceedings over being refused entry to a section of Killarney National Park arising out of their refusal to attach dung catchers to their horse-drawn carriages.

Jarvey drivers have commenced High Court proceedings over being refused entry to a section of Killarney National Park arising out of their refusal to attach dung catchers to their horse-drawn carriages.

The jarveys say that bollards blocking their entry to the park, which were erected earlier this week, will have a devastating effect on their ability to earn a living.

Today at the High Court, Mr Justice Frank Clarke granted leave to a group of more than 25 jarveys to bring judicial review proceedings against the National Parks and Wildlife Service over the decision to compel the them to attach the dung collectors.

The judge also gave the jarveys permission to seek an injunction restraining the service from barring access to Killarney National Park, and compelling the service to remove demountable bollards which were installed on July 14 last.
