Jack and Emily were the most popular names for newborns in Ireland last year, an official survey reveals.

Jack and Emily were the most popular names for newborns in Ireland last year, an official survey reveals.

Both names have been on the top spot for years, with Jack the most registered name for boys since 2007 and Emily the most popular girls name since 2011.

A close second to Jack is James in second place for boys, followed by Daniel, Conor and Sean. The five names have been the most popular for the last six years, with only the order changing from year to year.

Emma is the second most registered name for newborn baby girls in Ireland ahead of Sophie, Ella and Amelia.

Two first-time entries into the top 100 for boys were Kai and Kayden, with four first-time entries for girls: Sadie, Sienna, Fiadh and Poppy.
