Irish stroke figures 'seriously worrying'

The death rate from stroke in Ireland is expected to increase by more than 80% over the next 20 years.

The Stroke Alliance of Europe says the figures are "seriously worrying".

Chris Macey is from the Irish Heart Foundation and says it is due to aging population.

He says the solution is about getting people educated on their health.

"The tragedy is we actually don't need any extra money to fix our stroke services.

"We just need to invest in treatment that's been proved to save lives and money at the same time, so we don't have to send so many patients unnecessarily to nursing home care," he said.
