A Co Waterford priest has been shot dead in the Philippines.

A Co Waterford priest has been shot dead in the Philippines.

Fifty-seven-year-old Fr Rufus Halley of the Columban Fathers, was killed while out riding his motorbike as he travelled between neigbouring parishes in the south of the country, in a region which is violent and prone to criminal activity.

The motive for the killing is not yet known.

He had been working in the country since 1969.
