The Irish Cancer Society has launched a new breast cancer research collaboration, the first of its kind in the world.
It s investing €7.5m in the project over the next five years, and aims to improve treatment options and offer more personalised therapies for patients.
Up until now, finding the right treatment and drugs for women with breast cancer has been something of a process of trial and error.
However, the Irish Cancer Society (ICS) is bringing 50 leading Irish and global experts together to share resources, patient samples and technical expertise.
Head of Research with the ICS, Professor John Fitzpatrick said the aim is to tailor treatment for women based on the individual characteristics of their cancer tumour.
