Irish anti-abortion groups 'to receive funding from US action league'

Anti-abortion groups in Ireland look set to receive a major financial boost from pro-life campaigners in the US.

The Sunday Business Post reports that the American Pro-Life Action League has been fundraising in the US to support groups opposed to abortion in Ireland.

It is believed the national director of the group, who travels to Ireland to take part in Irish anti-abortion demonstrations, said the donations could be as much as several hundred thousand dollars.

The newspaper reports that the American Pro-Life Action League is closely aligned with the group Youth Defence, and that a large amount of the money would go to that group.

The Pro-Life Action League has taken an active interest in the case of Savita Halappanavar, and has criticised "pro-abortion forces", claiming they have "exploited the case for everything it’s worth".
