Inclusive teaching methods addressed at conference
A conference to examine ways to address the learning needs of all students gets underway in Dublin later.
The event is being organise by AHEAD and will focus on a Universal Design for Learning - so that all students receive equal opportunities to learn, including students with disabilities.
It aims to improve the educational experience of all students by introducing more flexible methods of teaching, assessment and service provision to cater for different styles of learners.
"All children learn differently - but in a classroom, ina school, we tend to each them all as if they were the average student … as if they were the same," said Ann Heelan, Executive Director of AHEAD.
"[That] works for many, it doesn't work for them all. The Universal Design Approach is to think about all the needs of the students [and] try to teach to what they can learn."
