The leadership of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions is expected to consider proposals for a campaign of opposition to government cutbacks when it meets later today.
Reports earlier this week said the Civil and Public Service Union wanted to reactivate plans put forward by ICTU earlier this year for a national day of strike action.
That protest was called off to allow for further talks with the Government on an economic recovery plan, discussions which ultimately proved fruitless.
ICTU is now reportedly considering the possibility of a "sustained" campaign of opposition to the recent proposals from An Bord Snip Nua and the Commission on Taxation, as well as suggestions of further cuts in public-sector pay.
