The employers' group IBEC says it is seriously concerned about high drop-out rates from university courses in science and technology.

Reports this morning say more than one-fifth of students who study such courses leave after their first year.

DCU reportedly has the highest drop-out rate in these subjects at 39%, followed by UCD at 26%.

IBEC says many students are not properly equipped to study science and technology subjects.
