A US millionaire has announced plans to build a huge replica of the Titanic in Belfast's docklands.

Suspended behind glass, the €64m large scale model would incorporate a five-star hotel, an exhibition area and conference rooms.

It would also feature life-size recreations of various parts of the Titanic, including the grand staircase, luxury first-class cabins, the great boilers and the bridge.

Michael Harris, the man behind the scheme, has no Northern connections, but is a Titanic enthusiast and already runs a large Titanic exhibition in Florida.

He and the Odyssey Trust are seeking nearly £40m (€51m) in government funding for the project.
