HSE publish terms of reference for abortion case review

The HSE has published the terms of reference for its review into the case of a suicidal woman who was refused an abortion.

A four-member panel will be tasked with establish all of the facts surrounding the care of "Ms Y".

The team is to report back in the shortest period possible.

The four-person review will be led by Dr Philip Crowley of the HSE and consists of Catriona Molloy of Patient Focus, independent consultant Alice O'Flynn and Mick Brophy - formerly of the Ombudsman's Office.

They have been tasked with establishing all of the facts, the sequence of events and communications chain relating to the case of the migrant woman, now known as Ms Y.

It will cover the time period from when she first had contact with the Health Service regarding her pregnancy up until she was refused an abortion and the baby was later delivered by C-section.

The team will report back to the HSE's Secretary General in the "shortest possible timeframe".

It comes as thousands turn out for both pro-life and pro-choice rallies in Dublin this weekend, including a protest by pro-life campaigners outside the Dail this evening attended by up to 100 people.
