HSE 'planning 40% increase in medical card reviews'

The HSE is planning an increase of more than 40% in the number of medical card reviews it carries out this year.

According to the Sunday Business Post, just under 644,900 review notices were issued to card holders last year.

More than 936,000 are planned for 2014.

The Government is insisting that only a small percentage of those reviews will result in someone losing a card.

The reviews have sparked serious criticism of the government, and the Finance Minister Michael Noonan indicated last week that the system would be looked at after this weekend's elections.
