Howlin: Government would be against repossessing family homes
Minister Brendan Howlin is denying there will be a wave of home reposessions in the new year.
The coalition has agreed to a Troika demand to close a loophole that's prevented banks from seizing homes.
A change in 2009 in the way properties were bought and sold created the loophole.
The Public Expenditure Minister says the Government remains committed to ensuring people stay in their family homes.
"A priority for us is to ensure families maintain the family home. That has been the practice even at the height of this crisis and that will remain the objective of Government.
"I don't expect, in truth, any mass repossessions of houses, certainly family homes, next year. The Government would be against such a move."
