House sellers 'must still pay next year's Property Tax'

People selling houses are still eligible to pay the 2014 Local Property Tax.

Tomorrow is the deadline for online property tax returns.

Revenue says more people are choosing to spread the payments across the year, rather than pay in a lump sum.

Vivienne Dempsey, local property tax project manager for the Revenue Commissioners, says that even people in the process of selling homes must pay the charge.

"If you own your property on the first of November, you pay the 2014 local property tax," she said.

"If you sell your property after that date, obviously you will have paid the local property tax - and as part of the sale of your property, it'll become the norm, that purchasers and sellers will factor that in."
