House prices down 1% in April

House prices nationally fell by 1% in April, down slightly from the previous month's drop of 1.7%.

The Central Statistics Office's second Residential Property Price Index shows that in the year to April, residential property prices fell by 12.2%.

The CSO's Niall O'Hanlon said house prices outside of Dublin fell further and that apartments in Dublin were worst-affected.

"The rate of decline has eased somewhat," he said. "In Dublin, residential property prices fell by 0.7% in April…but apartments fell at a much higher level at 1.8%. For the rest of the country, residential property prices fell by 1.3% in April."
