More than 570 people were waiting for a bed in hospitals across Ireland on Monday, according to the Irish Midwives and Nurses Organisation (INMO).

Some 406 patients were waiting in the emergency departments, while 166 were in wards elsewhere in hospitals.

The hospital with the highest number of patients without a bed was University Hospital Limerick, with 97 people on trolleys.

There were 37 people in emergency departments, with 60 patients elsewhere in hospitals.

At Cork University Hospital, 70 people were waiting for a bed, with 63 patients in the emergency department.

At University Hospital Galway, there were 54 people on trolleys, with 38 people in the emergency department.
