Hogan: Revenue will pursue unpaid Household Charge fees

Revenue Commissioners will be pursue people who have not paid the Household Charge, Environment Minister Phil Hogan has warned.

Minister Hogan was speaking as the final deadline for registering for the Local Property Tax edges closer.

He insisted that funds raised by the Household Charge and Property Tax will go to local councils to help form their yearly budgets.

Some 24% of people still have not paid the €100 Household Charge, and Minister Hogan warned of further penalties if they refuse to pay.

"I would remind people as well that there's going to be considerable additional penalties from the 1st of July, up to €200 you'll be paying, which would effectively be double the charge, if you continue to heed the people that say 'Don't register, don’t pay'," he said.

"So it's very important that people understand - this tax will be collected and the Local Property Tax will be collected and the Revenue Commissioners, after the 1st of July, will collect both if necessary."
