HMV staff end sit-ins as agreement reached on payments
Staff at now-closed HMV stores in Limerick, Cork and Dublin have ended their sit-ins after receiving assurances that they will be paid wages owed to them.
Employees at the two Limerick stores, on Cruise's St and in the Crescent shopping centre, had occupied the premises this week after HMV's Irish division was put into receivership.
The company employs around 300 people in Ireland and went into receivership on Thursday, closing its 16 Irish stores indefinitely. A buyer is now being sought by its appointed receivers, Deloitte.
The company went into administration in the UK on Wednesday.
"We have come to an agreement and we are getting paid. We have left the shop," staff behind the @hmvcrescent Twitter account tweeted this evening.
"Thank you to the support and to all local business as well as politicians who have supported us. We appreciate it. :)"
Staff at the HMV premises on St Patrick's Street in Cork, who occupied the premises yesterday, also ended their protest today, as did employees occupying the store in Tallaght.
"Our sit in protest has ended. We won, Deloitte agreed to pay us in full. Thank you for your help & support!," tweeted the @HMVTallaght account.
