Health-cuts protests to take place outside Dublin hospitals

Protest at cuts to health spending are taking place outside a number of Dublin hospitals today.

The protests, which are being organised by Sinn Féin, are due to begin at 2pm outside Skerries, Connolly (Blanchardstown) and Loughlinstown hospitals and at 1pm at Tallaght, Beaumont and Mater hospitals.

The HSE has said it needs to cut back by €619m this year.

Sinn Féin said the health service is already in crisis and further budgetary cuts will devastate it.

The party's Paul Donnelly said: "We have wards that are closed down. We have outpatients waiting up to one or two years for services...Right across the board, (these cuts) will impact on absolutely everybody."
