The Health Minister has said the cervical cancer vaccine will be rolled out to first year schoolgirls before the summer.

The Health Minister has said the cervical cancer vaccine will be rolled out to first year schoolgirls before the summer.

Mary Harney announced last week that the Goverment is reversing its previous decision not to proceed with a programme of cervical cancer vaccinations for girls.

She said that due to vaccine companies now offering better prices for the jab, it is possible to roll out the programme.

Minister Harney said she does not believe this will promote sexual activity in young girls.
