A man has been arrested following the seizure of a gun in Co Louth.

Officers responded to a public order incident on Barrack Street in Dundalk at around 7pm yesterday evening when a man became violently aggressive.

Gardaí searched a bag he was carrying and found it contained a firearm, which has been sent for forensic examination.

The 33-year-old man is currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939-98 at Dundalk Garda Station.

Six "locking" knives were also seized during this incident.
