Gun crime becoming 'all too common' in Dublin says councillor

Latest: A Dublin City Councillor says gun crime is becoming all too common in communities throughout the capital.

A number of gunshots were fired in the Woodlands Estate on the Blakestown Road in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Gardaí say they found several spent shotgun cartridges in a follow-up search of the area.

No one was injured in the incident, but Sinn Fein Councillor Daithi Doolan said the Government must act urgently to stamp out gun crime.

He said: "It's becoming all too common that there are gun attacks in our communities. It's wrong and it needs to be stopped.

"The way to stop it is to have gardaí on the beat that are accessible, that answerable to the community and that are properly and adequately resourced.

"We're calling on the Minister for Justice to work with us to eradicate gun crime right across Dublin...we want communities where people feel safe."
