GSOC: Justice Dept did not get report into illegal taping

The Garda Ombudsman has confirmed that the Department of Justice was not sent a copy of the report outlining illegal taping at Waterford Garda Station.

GSOC issued a report last June which revealed how all conversations on one line at the station had been illegally taped in 2010.

The report advised the Garda Commissioner to "re-evaluate" the Garda policy of recording telephone calls.

This morning a GSOC spokeswoman said the report was not directly sent to the Department of Justice, but stressed that it had been published in full online for any interested party to read.
