Group lodges complaint with UN committee over Magdalenes treatment

The Justice for Magdalenes group has lodged a complaint with the UN Committee Against Torture, saying it is concerned that the Government has not complied with the committee's recommendations.

In a statement, the group said the Coalition has not taken steps to ensure that all Magdalene victims get redress and compensation, including the means for as full rehabilitation as possible.

It has written to the Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, and Mr Justice John Quirke to ask for an urgent meeting to discuss their queries and concerns.

Mr Justice Quirke was appointed by the Government to advise on how to respond to the McAleese Report.
