The Green Party is to make a major announcement on climate-change policy today which it claims will have implications for the entire political system.

The event is timed to coincide with the publication of the second of three major reports by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on Friday.

Party leader Trevor Sargent, environment spokesperson Ciaran Cuffe and Eamon Ryan, Energy and transport spokesperson, will reveal their policies after a photoshoot featuring an endangered polar bear outside the gates of the Dáil.

The IPCC report provides an analysis of how climate change is affecting natural and human systems, what the impacts will be in the future, and how far adaptation and mitigation can reduce these impacts.
