Green party TD wants referendum on dual mandate

The Green party TD, Paul Gogarty has called on the Government to hold a referendum on the subject of dual mandate, to clarify public opinion on TDs and Senators holding council seats.

The Green party TD, Paul Gogarty has called on the Government to hold a referendum on the subject of dual mandate, to clarify public opinion on TDs and Senators holding council seats.

Deputy Gogarty was responding to statements in the Seanad which echoed previous arguments claiming that banning double-jobbing would be unconstitutional.

All of the Green party TD's gave up their Council seats voluntarily following their election to Dail Eireann.
