GRA president: Callinan was forced out
The president of the Garda Representative Association has said it is still their position that former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan was forced out of office.
Dermot O'Brien (pictured) was speaking after the interim Fennelly Commission report was published this week, which found the Taoiseach did not sack the Garda Commissioner, but that his departure was triggered by a visit from a civil servant acting on Enda Kenny's behalf.
At the GRA's annual conference in April, general secretary PJ Stone said Martin Callinan was removed from office.
GRA President Dermot O'Brien said the organisation stood by that statement despite the findings of the Fennelly Commission.
"We fully stand over (PJ Stone's) comments that (Martin Callinan) was forced out, and that's the only comment I'd make at this point in time," he said.
