Govt to hold public consultation ahead of new Policing Authority

The Government has announced a public consultation ahead of the establishment of the new Policing Authority.

The new independent body to oversee the Gardaí will be set up by the end of the year.

The Government said today that submissions are being sought to ensure a full public debate over justice reforms.

Ads have been placed in the national press calling for suggestions on what functions and responsibilities the Authority should have, its relationship with the Government and implications for GSOC and the Garda Inspectorate.

The deadline for public submissions has been set for the end of the month.
