Govt cracks down on funding for lobby groups

The Government has introduced new rules governing donations to lobby groups involved in referendum and election campaigns.

The Government has introduced new rules governing donations to lobby groups involved in referendum and election campaigns.

Under the regulations, such groups must declare any donations higher than €127 to the Public Offices Commission and cannot receive more than €6,350 from a single donor in any one year.

Lobby groups can still spend as much money as they like on election and referendum campaigns.
