Government urged to invest in training for childcare workers

The Government is being urged to invest more money in training for child care workers.

The call comes ahead of a major conference in Dublin today being organised by childcare professional group, Start Strong, to address equality for children.

The organisation is a nationwide group dedicated to improving child care standards - they claim that diversity training for staff is essential to make children feel included.

Acting director Toby Wolfe said that they need proper funding to help get the idea off the ground.

"Fundamentally quality relies upon the professional skills of those who are working in early childcare education," he said.

"At the moment levels of funded training are very low and the wages and working conditions aren't great

"So I think if we are looking at a more professional early childcare education sector we are going to need more money."
