Government under pressure to clarify Anglo position

The Government is under pressure to clarify its position on the Anglo Irish Bank promissory note payment.

€3.5bn is due to be paid in March 2013 but the Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte said over the weekend that he doesn't think the Government will pay it because we didn't pay the last installment.

Leo Vardkar also cast doubt over the payment last week.

The payment was deferred last March in favour of long term Government bonds.
