Government and developers join forces to finish estates

Developers are contributing to a scheme to finalise unfinished housing estates.

It has been announced that third parties, including developers, lenders and bonds, are paying €12m towards finishing 86 estates.

The Government is paying €10m towards the repairs, which will focus on public facilities such as roads, footpaths, lighting and green areas.

"We've already made a lot of progress in the completion of unfinished housing estates since we came onto Government," said Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, speaking to Galway Bay FM.

"We've now completed 56% of all of the unfinished housing estates that we inherited three years ago."

He also pointed out that 56% of estates represented 72% of individual units - houses and apartments.
