In a joint statement released this morning to mark the 20th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement the Catholic and Church of Ireland Primates of All Ireland have appealed for "the vision of a common good" embodied by the Good Friday Agreement "not to be submerged beneath sectional interests".
In a hard hitting joint statement Archbishop Eamon Martin and Archbishop Richard Clarke ask the wider community in Ireland to ask "whether the principles and structure of the Good Friday Agreement have failed us or ... is it that we have together failed to make the most of those supportive principles which it offered?"
They go on to appeal for "all people of good will to be ambassadors of reconciliation" in protecting the hard won peace achieved by the Good Friday Agreement.
