The girlfriend of the young Corkman who died in Spain while on holiday this week has paid a heartrending tribute to him in the aftermath of the tragedy, saying "I'll never forget you".
Greg Long, a 19-year-old Coachford College graduate from Rylane, died in a tragic accident in a swimming pool in Torremolinos in the Costa Del Sol on Wednesday while on his first foreign holiday.
Greg was in Spain to celebrate the 40th birthday of a family friend.
His death had led to a huge outpouring of grief from his peers, with hundreds of tributes from young people sharing their memories of a man described as having a wonderful sense of humour and great character.
His girlfriend Louise O'Riordan said on Greg's Facebook page: "Words can't describe how I'm feeling right now, I'm heartbroken, you never failed to make me smile and laugh...I'm so grateful for spending the last year with you, I'll never forget you, till we meet again ... Love you forever RIP XXX."
Tomorrow's Intermediate Hurling League between Aghabullogue and Aghada has been called off as a mark of respect to Greg, while the Coachford Players have cancelled the Monday and Tuesday performances of their play, Many Young Men of Twenty.
No funeral arrangements have been finalised as yet and the Department of Foreign Affairs is assisting the Long family in Spain.
