Girl, 8, injured and mother dies in Kerry crash

A woman in her thirties has been killed following a car crash near the Ring of Kerry.

A woman in her 30s has been killed following a car crash near the Ring of Kerry.

The woman was killed when her car hit a tree on the N72 at Killorglin at 12.20 this afternoon.

The driver's eight-year-old daughter, who was the only passenger, was taken to hospital, but her injuries are not said to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for a time for a technical examination but it has since re-opened.

Gardaí in Killarney are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.
