Gilmore under pressure to intervene in Gaza flotilla case
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore is coming under pressure to intervene on behalf of 14 Irish citizens who have been held in an Israeli prison since Saturday.
The activists were apprehended in international waters last week as they attempted to deliver relief supplies to Gaza.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said that it is hoped that all 14 will be flown home in the next 24 hours.
Socialist MEP Paul Murphy, former Fianna Fáil TD Chris Andrews and former rugby player Trevor Hogan are among those being held.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs later stated that it is hoped that the Irish citizens will be flown home later today.
