Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has called former Northern Ireland Secretary Owen Patterson "a complete tube" after the British MP said politicians in the North should be denied their salaries if they fail to reach a powersharing agreement.
Mr Adams made the comment when he was talking to Cormac O’hEadhra, who was standing in for Sean O'Rourke on RTÉ Radio One's 'Today with Sean O' Rourke' show this morning.
The Louth TD said that Good Friday agreement is under serious threat and British Prime Minister Theresa May has paid no attention to the devolved administrations.
Mr Adams said his party had not left the talks, but claimed talks broke down on Sunday when the DUP failed to turn up.
He said talks were not about re-negotiating but about implementing agreed policies.
The Sinn Féin leader also commented on the latest Garda scandal saying there needs to be a 'genuine' root-and-branch review of senior Garda management.
Mr Adams said the Garda culture does not have accountability and added that Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan "is the boss" and this is why his party focused their vote of no confidence on her personally.
He said the Policing Authority should have more authority, including the authority to sack members.
