Gardaí to vote on industrial action today

Rank and file Gardaí are being balloted on whether they would be willing to take industrial action over pay.

The Garda Representative Association says all members should let their voice be heard by casting their vote.

The Garda Representative Association is seeking to restore pay and allowances lost due to austerity measures.

Gardaí are not legally permitted to take part in strikes or industrial action.

In a letter to rank and file Gardaí, the GRA General Secretary Pat Ennis has urged members to express their views on the issue.

The secret ballot will ask members if they would be willing to take part in a day or days of industrial action.

Mr Ennis said the GRA was committed to fighting "the injustice and hardships inflicted" on them - saying it was important that all members take this opportunity to express their views.
