A suspect in the fatal stabbing of Conor Quinn in Mallow, Co Cork last week is believed to have fled to the UK.

It is being reported that Gardaí have been in contact with police in the UK as they believe a suspect that they are anxious to speak to has fled the country.

After speaking with individuals close to the local man, they believe that he may have travelled to the UK.

Gardaí were on alert for the 21-year-old at airport and ports but believe that he had assistance and may have been smuggled in the back of a van, taking a ferry across to the UK.

Conor Quinn, who was originally from Galway but living in north Cork, was stabbed at Bridge Street at 8.30pm on Thursday evening during an altercation with another young man.

Mr Quinn was expecting his first child.

Gardaí have confirmed that they are aware of the circumstances leading up to the stabbing. There have been reports that the row began in a dispute over €50.

They have also confirmed that they have secured footage of the incident which sees Mr Quinn pull up in a car on Bridge Street, approach the suspect and engaged in a brief exchange before he is stabbed by the suspect who then flees the scene on foot.

Mr Quinn was able to flag down an ambulance which had been driving down Bridge Street and he was rushed to Cork University Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

A post-mortem revealed that Mr Quinn died from a single stab wound to the abdomen.
