Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses after a 32-year-old man died following an alleged assault in Killorglin in Co Kerry.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses after a 32-year-old man died following an alleged assault in Killorglin in Co Kerry.

The assault took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man was assaulted at a fast food outlet at the Square in Killorglin at around 2.40am on Sunday morning.

He was initially taken to University Hospital in Kerry after the assault and then transferred to Cork University Hospital.

He subsequently died in hospital yesterday afternoon with a post mortem likely to take place today.

Gardaí say the direction of their investigation will be based on the results of that post mortem.

Meanwhile anyone who was in the Square in Kilorglin from around 2.30am on Sunday morning is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
