Gardaí have this morning released a man, aged in his 20s, who was questioned in connection with an attack on Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin.

A file is being prepared for the DPP.

Promoters for the 25-year-old boxer say a serious leg injury he sustained in an assault yesterday is likely to keep him out of the ring for up to three months.

Nevin broke his leg in two places after he was attacked at his house in Mullingar yesterday morning.

"Obviously, he's out of boxing for a while," said Nevin's coach, Brian Mc Keown.

"But knowing the lad, and knowing the strength of his character, and his ability an everything else, I still think we can bounce back."
