Gardaí question man after Irish Olympic boxer Nevin suffers broken legs

A man in his 20s is in Garda custody in Mullingar this evening following an attack on Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin.

Gardaí were called to a dispute involving a number of individuals in the Ardleigh area shortly after 11am this morning.

The 25-year-old boxer's leg has been broken in two places.

John Joe Nevin's coach, Brian Mc Keown says he will be out of action for a while.

"Obviously, he's out of boxing for a while," he said.

"But knowing the lad, and knowing the strength of his character, and his ability an everything else, I still think we can bounce back."
