Gardaí question housing estate residents after man shot overnight

Gardaí in Dublin have begun door-to-door inquiries at a housing estate in the south inner city where a young man was shot this morning.

The 21-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot in the leg.

The victim of this shooting was rushed to St James's Hospital after being shot in the leg just after 5am this morning at the Slieve Bloom Park estate in Drimnagh.

The area was sealed off and the road was closed to allow for a technical examination to take place.

The victim is expected to make a full recovery and Gardaí are eager to take a statement from him as soon as he is well enough to give one.

It is understood he was shot by a lone gunman who left the scene on foot.

This is the second shooting to take place in the Drimnagh area in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, Christopher Zambra, a well-known gangland criminal, was shot dead outside his sister's house at a housing estate on nearby Cooley Rd.

Gardaí are trying to establish a motive for this morning's shooting and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crumlin Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
