Gardaí: Offaly murder victim suffered gunshot wounds

A 47-year-old man whose body was found in Co Offaly yesterday suffered a number of gunshot wounds, gardaí have said.

Gardaí earlier said that they had upgraded to a murder inquiry the investigation into the death of Christy Daly, whose remains were found in a ditch at Bog road, Killbride, Clara.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have heard gunshots in the vicinity between Sunday December 29 and Tuesday Jan 7 to contact them at Tullamore Garda station.

The Clara man, a father of six who was known to gardaí, was found in a drain yesterday 100m from a burnt caravan and two burnt out cars at Bog Rd, Kilbride in Clara.

He had been released from prison last month.
