Gardai, road safety groups and local authorities in the Dublin region are launching a Casualty Reduction campaign in April and May, to try and further cut fatalities.
In particular, they are targeting pedestrians, which are the single biggest road user group to die on Dublin roads.
Nearly 40% of deaths on roads around the capital are pedestrians.
"We must get drivers to slow down, particularly in 30km/h and 50km/h zones, but also appeal to pedestrians to ensure they do everything to remain safe on the roads," said Chief Superintendent Aidan Reid, head of Dublin’s Traffic Corps.
