Gardaí investigate armed robbery at service station

Gardaí are hunting for an armed robber who stole cash from a service station in Cork last night, writes Liz Dunphy of the Evening Echo.

The cash was demanded at gunpoint in the armed robbery at an Applegreen service station at Brooklodge, Glanmire.

A man walked in, handed an empty bag to the man behind the counter, produced a gun and demanded money.

The shop attendant put money into the bag and handed it to the thief, who then walked outside to a wine coloured Fiat Punto, with a registration plate of 98 D which he had arrived in.

When he left the service station at around 7.40pm, two ladies were walking by, and the thief stopped to let them pass. Gardaí have requested that these two women contact them.

Gardaí found the Fiat Punto at Templenacarriga outside Midleton.

Gardaí have described the culprit as a male, approximately 6' in height and of athletic build.

He was wearing a hooded top that is light grey on top and black on the bottom, black tracksuit bottoms and dark coloured footwear.

They are appealing to any witnesses who were in the vicinity of the service station between 7.30pm – 7.45pm to contact gardaí, and to anyone who saw the vehicle travelling towards Knockraha on Monday evening to contact Mayfield Garda Station on (021) 455 8510 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111.
