Gardaí find cannabis growhouse after smelling drug during drink-driving check

Gardaí carrying out drink-driving tests at a checkpoint in Dublin have made an arrest and uncovered a cannabis growhouse in Co Kildare.

The Gardaí were conducting a Mandatory Alcohol Testing checkpoint on St. John's Road West, yesterday when they detected a smell of cannabis from a car.

During a search of the car, under the Misuse of Drugs Act, they found a medium-sized bag of what appeared to be cannabis.

The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested and is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Kilmainham Garda station.

In a follow-up search at a house in Prosperous, Co Kildare, this morning Gardaí uncovered a cannabis cultivation operation with €60,000 of cannabis plant and herb and around €30,000 in cash.
