Gardaí continue to question men and boys over protest violence
Gardaí in Dublin are still questioning five men and two teenage boys for alleged violent disorder during a demonstration outside the Dáil.
Minor scuffles broke out as a group of about 150 people protested opposite Leinster House as politicians returned for their first day after the summer break on September 18.
Gardaí said the seven, who are aged from 14 to 35, are being questioned on suspicion of violent disorder.
They were arrested during dawn raids across the Dublin region involving several units, including the special detective unit.
They are being questioned at several stations across the capital under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, and can be detained for up to 24 hours.
Gardaí drew batons and used pepper spray as scuffles broke out at the demonstration involving a small number of protesters.
An elderly man had to be treated for a minor injury to his head, while a woman was seen having some of her clothes pulled from her back during the struggle.
The garda dog unit and mounted officers were called in as reinforcements, along with an ambulance to treat any wounded.
